History

Established in October 1984, the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Peshawar was founded by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen postgraduate medical training directly within the province—a goal previously hindered by the need for doctors to travel to other provinces for specialization From modest beginnings offering diploma programs, PGMI quickly scaled up to host FCPS and MCPS training alongside diplomas, affiliating with Khyber Medical University and being accredited by the College of Physicians and Over the years, PGMI has become a premier academic institution, housing the only Institutional Review & Ethics Board in KP registered with the OHRP (USA), a WHO-aligned Department of Medical Education, and one of the country’s highest-rated medical journals, the Journal of Postgraduate Medical Institute (JPMI) Over the years, the Institute has evolved into a center of academic excellence, affiliated with leading teaching hospitals and universities. Guided by the untiring efforts and visionary leadership of its Chief Executive Officers, PGMI has grown into a prestigious institution recognized across the country for postgraduate training and research.
